What

‘Arte del Barrio’ a nonprofit multicultural cooperative organization is proud to be back in Miami’s art scene featuring "Deca Change 2001-2011- One Decade of Change", our 9th Multimedia event. On May 2011, over 25 artists and performers will develop and present their own art manifestation over crucial events that have left a mark on the first decade of the new millennium, not only in US history, but also in the history of human kind: Globalization, European Union, Twin Towers, George Bush, Iraq War, Economic Crisis, Barak Obama, Health Care Reform and Spiritual Awareness. The selected topic will allow artists to focus on the struggle to live during these times of change, while trying to bring awareness to the impact that these events have had, not only on the future of the human kind, but also on our rights and freedom as artists, immigrants and/or citizens.

When and Where

On Saturday, May 21, 2011, over 25 local artists representing disciplines such as the visual arts, music, theater, film, and dance performance, will showcase their art and talent at 2151 NW 1st Court, Miami, Fl 33127.  We expect to attract approximately 500 people among everyone who likes and enjoys art, regardless of age, genre and/or ethnic background. The public is asked to pay $7.00 (students and seniors $5) (children 12 years old and under -free admission) to access the event. The event starts at 6.oo Pm and will end at 12.30 AM.

Who

The activity will consist of: Eight-hour multi-disciplinary art show that will feature more than 25 artists in their respective disciplines: Paintings by Jorge Alvarez; Eduardo Molto;  Juan Manuel Rozas; Hernan Vera Alvarez; Installations by Milcho; Aimee Ortiz ;Photography by Evelyn Posada and Marcela Arbelaez; Sculpture by Daniel Fiorda; Mariano Costa Peuser; Theater by CORTO Physical Theater; Mariano Pico; Gerardo Pilatti; Dance Performance by Carlota Pradera; Video art by Ramon Williams, Eduardo Molto and Milcho. Local filmmakers like Major Minerz; and Christian Mendoza; Music bands like The Tremends; Arboles Libres; Music Circle; Alan Hughes; Transoverload, Stuka and UOM .Our focus is set on reaching a variety of audiences, with special interest in underserved groups who enjoy the arts, but do not have the financial means to attend expensive cultural events. We strongly believe that, through art, people can find healing as individuals and as a community.  As such, we aim to encourage the community to become actively involved.

How

By means of this kind of events, we will be able to broaden our audiences and bring new people in contact with the arts, making them active participants in the work of the artists. Artists and performers will work around the topic of the show, which is determined 4 months prior to the event. Our goal is to entertain and educate the public by encouraging everyone’s active participation. The process of art selection is conducted by a curator (Eduardo Molto) and (Aimee Ortiz). They will determine which new artists will participate and which of their art pieces will be exhibited in the event. The activity is conducted and organized by Arte del Barrio’s administrative staff, a curator, and other selected juries and volunteers who spend four months coordinating and preparing the event as well as selecting the art and the performances to be presented.

Why

“Deca Change 2001-2011-One Decade of Change" multimedia art event will provide performance opportunities to both renowned and up-and-coming artists living in Miami. With these types of events, our non-profit organization will be able to sustain and expand cultural activities aimed at stimulating the area’s artistic education and resources. The funds we are seeking with “Deca Change 2001-2011. One Decade of Change “will support educational leadership and provide each artist with the opportunity to serve the public good.

Arte Del Barrio projects are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade
